The new laws are likely to come into play next year in England and Wales.
The laws will be introduced to ban bailiffs from entering your property when only children are present, from entering into your home at night and will also prevent them from using force against people who owe money.
Bev Budsworth adds
I believe the proposed changes are long overdue and will help provide a much clearer picture on the fees that Bailiffs can charge. The current charging structure is prone to abuse.
The Citizens Advice Bureau receives tens of thousands of complaints every year regarding bailiffs, including reports of instances when bailiffs have tired to seize children’s toys and even family pets.
It’s clear that there are some bailiffs out there, who are misinterpreting what the rules are and are using force as a means to intimidate people.
Hopefully, the mandatory training and new certification process when introduced will help to combat the problem.
